This is not a full list- please CALL immediately if you are unsure if you have an emergency. We will help you triage and decide on the best course of action.

Colic is the most common emergency and will always be considered an emergency. Please CALL immediately if you have any suspicion that your horse is colicking and have a working truck and trailer accessible should referral be recommended and accepted.

Choke is always considered an emergency

Swollen/painful/injured eyes should always be seen the same day.

Sudden severe lameness and/or sudden swelling in a limb should always be seen the same day

Most lacerations (cuts) are considered emergencies, especially if they are located over or located over a joint or have profuse bleeding. Please be prepared to describe exactly where the injury is (cell phone pictures are fantastic!)

Down/unable to rise

Euthanasia

Neurologic horse (often looks as if they are wobbly, “drunk”, unable to stay balanced) or face is twisted.

Sick horses-especially those not eating/laying down more than usual are often the first signs of colic but please call even if you do not think it is colic!
