Katy was born in Dubuque, Iowa and grew up around horses. After graduating high school in 2005, Katy worked at her local animal shelter. There, she decided to further her love of animals. Katy then moved to Denver, Colorado in 2011 to attend the Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology. She graduated in 2014 with her Associate Degree in Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology. After graduation, Katy worked in different practices ranging from small animal to mixed. Katy loves being a Veterinary Technician and enjoys using her technical skills, especially when it comes to venipuncture, anesthesia, and emergency medicine. She is currently attending Oregon State University online to complete her bachelor’s degree in Zoology. She hopes in the future to work at a zoo or conservation. In the summer of 2022, her love and passion for horses brought her to the Equestrian Center at the Air Force Academy. There, she tends to all of the horses on base and their owners. Katy currently owns a rescue kitten named Missy, and two horses; a 25-year-old Appendix named Pigeon, a retiree from the dude string at the Air Force Academy, and Dually, a 4-year-old BLM Mustang. In her spare time, you will find her spending time with her three children, exploring the hiking trails of Colorado, training her mustang, and riding the beautiful trails at USAFA. Katy is super excited to be joining Dr. Shilo, meeting clients, and taking care of their horses.
Evelyn Kronlage was born and raised in Colorado Springs, where her love for horses was sparked by a horseback riding birthday party 10 years ago. This passion led her to start leasing horses to show, and eventually to training and showing her own two horses, Ellie and Ally. Over the years, her dedication and talent in the sport have earned her two world titles and a bronze world title. In addition to her equestrian achievements, Evelyn is also an ultra-marathoner, having competed in races like the Pikes Peak Ascent and marathon. Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in biology, Evelyn plans to attend medical school to eventually have a career in pathology, all sparked by her curiosity to take care of and fully understand horses. Despite her aspirations in human medicine, she remains passionate about horses and has been working as an assistant at equine clinics. Balancing her love for medicine and horses, Evelyn is excited to continue learning and growing in both fields.
Rebecca, born and raised in Colorado Springs where her journey to veterinary medicine has been marked by a constant pursuit of learning. She recently graduated from UCCS with a dual degree: a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in December 2024. She is currently furthering her academic focus by pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Veterinary Forensics from the University of Florida. She is actively applying to veterinary school to pursue a childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian.
Though she has recently shifted her focus to the equine world, she brings four years of diverse experience from her work in small animal emergency and general practice. This background has solidified her love for veterinary medicine, fostering strong client relationships, and caring for all species. She is excited to learn and be a part of a great team to bring amazing care and compassion to your equine companions.
Outside of work, she enjoys relaxing at home with a good book or catching up on a TV series. My home is currently run by four cats (Pickles, Hero, Callie, and Goldie) who keep me busy and remind me daily of the quiet joy of a loving animal companion.
